Victory Monument is one of Bangkok’s busiest intersections with thousands of Skytrain, bus and car commuters passing through each day, together with hundreds of vendors who ply their trade there. It is also known as the ‘zero marker’ for the centre of Thailand, the starting point from which all distances are measured.
Victory Monument is Bangkok’s zero-marker: a transit hub, market place, social space and mysterious monument. Apostrophe’S and artist Maria Stukoff are planning a radical ‘creative infection’ to engage the site’s users with the environmental, cultural and social impact of the site.
This project examines the idea of heritage and contemporary urban life and will explore practical solutions for the development of George Town as a creative heritage city.
In March 2009, British Council Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Gongju city, the aim being to help Gongju with its plans to become a vibrant centre of culture and the arts.
