Competition: Show Us Your City
Calling urban dwellers: we want to experience your world. Take us on a journey through the streets and social spaces of your neighbourhood, tell us what inspires you, what frustrates you, and what you think makes your part of the world unique.
Show us your city this month and you’ll be in the running to win a trip to London to experience the 2010 London Festival of Architecture, to be awarded to one outstanding blog contributor at the conclusion of the Creative Cities East Asia blog project in January.
What we are looking for?
We invite you to take us on a virtual walk through the streets of your neighbourhood, or a part of your city that interests you. You can do this through words, images, tagged maps, sound or video — it’s up to you — and keep in mind that we’re looking for the most interesting contributions from people who have stories to tell about their relationship to these places. In other words, it’s your message, and not the quality of your photos or video, that we’ll be thinking about.
We’re interested in discovering your favourite places; from busy streets and bustling markets to green oases, welcoming cafes where you can while away an afternoon or check your email, steps, malls and monuments where you meet friends, to art galleries, performance spaces and transport hubs. By documenting these places with personality in each city, we hope to develop connections around the region, and to highlight what factors make a place a social space.

Entry suggestion : tag a map of your neighbourhood with your favourite social spaces, add descriptions and photos, and then share with our readers through the blog.
Who can enter?
Entry is open to residents of any of the 12 countries within the scope of the Creative Cities East Asia blog, namely; Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
How do I enter?
You may enter in two ways:
1. You could upload your entry to your own blog, Flickr account, or other website, then post a link in the comments thread below.
2. Email info [at] creativecities [dot] org [dot] uk with a link to your entry, or your entry as a PDF, slideshoe presentation, video, or in another commonly accepted format.

Entry suggestion : create a slideshow or collection of images on Flickr or another photo hosting site. Be sure to include descriptions of your social spaces, then send us a link. It’s that easy!
How will the winner be selected?
A shortlist of entries which present a compelling story about social spaces of the city, or demonstrate an interesting approach to the competition, will be selected by the Creative Cities East Asia editorial team for peer review. This shortlist will be presented here on the blog and user feedback will be invited. The top five entries will go into the draw to win the major prize, alongside top entries from three other upcoming projects, with the prize to be awarded in January 2010.
What could I win?
Creative Cities East Asia is offering an opportunity for professional development through attendance at the London Festival of Architecture 2010, which takes place June 19 — July 4, 2010. Flights, accomodation and some expenses will be covered. Winning this prize does not guarantee participation in the festival. Further details on the prize to be announced shortly.

I live in Sydney and would like to enter your Show Us Your City competition.
My ‘entry’ is at http://www.52suburbs.com
What part of the blog is the entry? The WHOLE blog is the entry.
Because, as you’ll see I am in the process of exploring my own city — Sydney — one suburb at a time for a year. Hence the title, 52 Suburbs. The ‘story’ I tell about my relationship to the places is whether or not I find beauty in the ‘burb, beauty meaning original, repurposed etc. Each post about a new suburb begins with a brief ‘history’ and then my initial reaction. My photos are arranged in dyptychs which have a caption — they continue to tell the story. I then conclude each blog with my verdict on whether or not I found ‘beauty’ and where I found it.
Thanks!
Louise
Hi Louise,
Thanks for your entry! 52 Suburbs is a great blog based on a fantastic idea — exploring our own cities to find inspiration and a connection to place — which is a lot like what we’re trying to achieve through the Creative Cities East Asia project.
I’d like to highlight your project through a dedicated post in the coming weeks, and will be in touch to discuss.
Thanks for sharing!
Jess — Creative Cities East Asia Editor
Is there a closing date for entries?

Hi Jess and Cheech,
Thanks for your interest in Creative Cities, we’ve already received some exciting entries and will post a series of features on them in the next few days. This call-out is open until December 1.
The on-going competition is designed to reward contributions to the discussion here at Creative Cities so we’ll include the best entries in this call-out along with outstanding entries from the next three call-outs too (relating to Sustainable Cities, Creative Communities and Future Visions, which are the areas we’ll be exploring next) and select the winner early next year.
You can post your submission here OR email it to us at info [at] creativecities [dot] org [dot] uk
